Saturday February 26, 2011 - Heritage Trail mountain bike ride

Ride Organiser: Robert Hind Robert@robert-hind.com
Organisers mobile tel: 0417 934 502
Ride style: Social
Ride type: Mountain Bike - non technical
Terrain: Steady Climb then Good descent
Estimated Distance: 45kms
Start Time: 8:00 am
Start Point: 16 Mofflin Avenue, Darlington

We'll do the easy mountain bike ride on the Heritage Trail. Firstly we'll take the track from Francis Vivier's house to Pechey Park then we'll ride the track North of Great Eastern Highway up to Sawyers Valley. This a fairly easy, steady climb. We'll cross the highway and return on the side with a stop at Darlington for coffee / food. The return is mainly downhill and in parts quite fast.

For those of you who haven't done much mountain bike riding this is an excellent way to get accustomed to MTB rides. Francis tells me:-

"Our address is: 16 Mofflin Avenue, Darlington. I won't give my home number, so the rest of the household can sleep  - (in particular teenagers they need their beauty sleep)! But people can ring my mobile, I will be up by 6.00 am.
Mofflin avenue is off Ryecroft Road, it is a road that goes between Darlington and Glen Forrest, when coming from Darlington, it is on the left. My house is on the right when coming down Mofflin Avenue and look for a green letter box.
If people come via Great Eastern Hwy, I tell my visitors to follow the white lines all the way to Mofflin Avenue, generally it works. You can come via the back roads from Guildford, via Bushmead Rd, Helena Valley Rd and Scott St, it is a very pleasant road.
Finally I will ask every one to park their cars on the street, otherwise it becomes a nightmare with the 3 cars and one motorbike on my property. Come to the top of driveway for a meet and greet."
Cheers,
Francis Vivier

  1. Wow ...what a hot ride this one turned out to be!! With a 36 degree scorcher and what seemed like high humidity we all went through heaps of water and sports drink during the ride.

A special thank you to Francis and Michelle Vivier for welcoming us to their home after the ride and providing much needed refreshment and their pool for a cool dip.
